MADGE H8R

From the same neon-coloured, flame-detailed universe as artists like Poppy, Alma, Rina Sawayama, Jinka and Billie Eilish, comes non-binary future star Madge. Following their dystopian pop track ‘Ethanol’, the LA-based producer and artist is back with power-punching single ‘H8R’. Through nightmarish guitars and avant-pop melodies, Madge banishes music industry bros and blood suckers to the wasteland. As Madge states: "If you hate everything too then meet me in hell. Ironically I wrote this song from an innocent, nostalgic place in my brain. It feels like a twisted nursery rhyme to me.” Never one to be pigeon-holed, they draw on a wealth of experiences, such as Celtic mythology, the legacy of their Mormon upbringing in Utah and contemporary spirituality. All of this is spun out in 00s emo angst and misleadingly sugary pop, further proving Madge as a self-producing artist to watch. - Hannah Thacker
